Tyna Adebowale’s art is influenced by everyday happenings, especially trending issues on the social media or mass media, mostly centered on the dysfunctionality of politician’s attitudes and the state of the country. She 'freezes' the moment to her preferred surface, looking at texturized impressions of the sociopolitical climate in Nigeria. She utilizes texts, pigment and mixed media materials to realize these works. In the Made in China series, she looks at issues of consumerism, and how Nigeria/Africa have become a big market for things imported from China which most times are not good quality products. Using the female body, she also looks at issues dealing with sexuality, identity and silence. Also, she recently began developing interests in moving pictures inspired by movements of people between places in the very busy and populous city of Lagos. Adebowale is an artist on a continuous creative journey. And, she wants to learn.
