Lindsay Sawyer is a doctoral candidate at the Department of Architecture of ETH Zurich, and is based at the Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) in Singapore. Her research focuses on the urbanization of Lagos, particularly tenement housing as an example of the ordinary, rather than exceptional, urban condition. The research forms part of a wider project Planetary Urbanization in Comparative Perspective of the FCL comparing nine of the world’s biggest megacities: Tokyo, Hong Kong and Pearl River Delta, Kolkata, Istanbul, Lagos, Paris, Mexico City, Los Angeles. Lindsay received degrees from the University of Edinburgh in Architectural Design and The City. She has also worked professionally at Scale Architecture in Sydney, Australia.
Lindsay is interested in bringing a broad range of influences into her urban research – photography, sound, film, novels, poetry, and also opening up academic research to a broader audience.
